—Eventide

IMG_0503

Slam that book shut
not a chapter more
not a page further;
End that perennial letter of mixed emotions and uncertainty;
Cut the drama
your tears need cessation
it can’t rain forever, sweetheart
Enough is enough.

Don’t you fret, now
summon audacity for closure
let the dusk prove to you
that it will only be an end
not the end;
the dusk only ties things up, dear
for a new beginning.

We must know when to gloriously bask
in the splendor of dawn
and when to wrap things up
in a prayer
and bury them in the dim of eventide.

  1. I have read it like a secondhand prayer. One that passes godly sorrow onto the next sufferer, but in light of that passing forward, it becomes a shared comfort. There are distances that can be felt between human beings. Such distances can be bridged by a mutual understanding of what it takes to move on.

    ”summon audacity for closure
    let the dusk prove to you
    that it will only be an end
    not the end;”

    Endings are some of the most painful things in this world, beginnings are its counterpoise. Sunrises and sunsets love each other in an opposition that brings acceptance. So in the end, the eventide begins again as a lovely morning.
